Bio
Jiří Matzner is the founder and managing partner of Matzner Legal, a law firm that has been providing legal services to clients for over 20 years. He specializes primarily in copyright law, licensing law, ICT law, AI-related issues, as well as civil and criminal law. He has been repeatedly selected as a mediator in court disputes arising from ICT projects.
Since 2019, he has been teaching intellectual property and copyright law at the University of Finance and Administration. In 2019, he served as a visiting faculty member at the International University College of Law in San Francisco.
In 2014, he served as an external advisor to the Deputy Minister of Culture on legal matters, and since 2022, he has been an external advisor to the Minister of Industry and Trade. A member of the ICT Section of the Czech Bar Association since 2019, he is also a court-appointed expert in copyright law. He is a registered mediator with the Ministry of Justice and the IP Mediation Center. Additionally, he serves as the Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Military Health Insurance Company and the Chairman of the Disciplinary Senate of the Disciplinary Commission of the Czech Bar Association. In July 2024, he was elected Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee of the League Football Association (LFA).
In both 2022 and 2023, Matzner Legal was ranked among the highly recommended law firms in the prestigious "Law Firm of the Year" competition, in categories such as IT Law, Copyright Law, Logistics and Transport Construction, Criminal Law, and Health Law. In 2022, 2023, and 2024, the firm was also recognized in esteemed rankings by Lawyers & Business and EURO magazine. In June 2024, Matzner Legal received the special Management Excellence Award at the CZECH TOP 100 Gala, recognizing the most significant companies in the Czech Republic for 2023.
Committed to non-profit initiatives, he has collaborated for many years with Bílý Kruh Bezpečí (White Circle of Safety), one of the most renowned non-governmental organizations dedicated to supporting victims of crime. Beyond his professional endeavors, he founded the Pelecanus Foundation, aiming to assist people with disabilities. He is also a long-standing supporter of a successful Czech para-athlete specializing in sprinting and shot put, who represents the Czech Republic and won a bronze medal in the women's shot put at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
